<div>Hi, my name is Melvin Green, and I’m raising funds to help lay my brother, Calvin Lee Green (July 5, 1981 – October 25, 2025), to rest the way he deserves — through human composting (natural organic reduction), and to cover funeral and wake expenses so our family and friends can say goodbye to him properly.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Our family just used what savings we had to bury our grandmother, so we’re reaching out for help to give Calvin the same dignity, love, and care she received.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>My brother, Calvin, was a rebel — but not the kind you see in movies. He was the kind who fought through pain every single day and still found ways to laugh, to love, and to care.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>He was born with more battles than any one man should have to fight: bipolar disorder, manic depression, fibromyalgia, osteogenesis imperfecta (a severe genetic form of osteoporosis), and congenital heart failure. His body twisted and broke over time, his spine curving like a corkscrew until the man who once stood nearly six feet tall could barely reach five-four. But even as pain became his constant companion, his heart — his metaphorical heart — only grew bigger.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>When I say my brother had heart, I mean it in every sense of the word.
</div>
<div>He had courage. He had compassion. He had fire.
</div>
<div>And he loved his family with everything he had left to give.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>But there was one battle he couldn’t win alone — addiction. Like too many others, fentanyl took hold of him. But Calvin didn’t overdose. It wasn’t the drug that killed him — it was the fear of quitting. His body and heart just weren’t strong enough to survive the fight. Three days before he passed, he got his in-home detox kit. He was trying. He was ready. And his heart gave out before he could make it through.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Even through his pain, Calvin was proud of one thing above all else — his son, Gauge. The day Gauge was born, and the day he was baptized, were two of the proudest moments of his life. He loved that boy deeply, even when his own struggles kept him at a distance. That love never faded. It was his anchor, and his biggest regret was not being able to be the father he wanted to be.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Calvin was also one of the smartest, funniest, and most genuine people I’ve ever known. He could talk about anything — one minute we’d be deep in a philosophical conversation, the next we’d be laughing over some ridiculous joke that only he could deliver. He had this way of making everyone around him feel like they mattered.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>And if you knew my brother, you knew about his passions.
</div>
<div>He loved rocks.
</div>
<div>Rocks, fossils, petrified wood — you name it, he probably had it. His collections were like small museums of beauty he found in the world, proof that even through pain, he saw wonder in the little things. He also loved Marvel, coins, comics, pins, and Funko pops — basically anything that carried a story or memory with it.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>And of course, I can’t tell Calvin’s story without mentioning the Dirty Crew — his lifelong brothers. What started as a small group of scrappy friends became a family. They lived wild, fought hard, partied harder, and always came back together no matter what. They might have aged, moved, or struggled, but once you were part of the Dirty Crew, you were family for life. That loyalty — that sense of us against the world — that’s what made my brother who he was.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>My relationship with Calvin wasn’t always easy.
</div>
<div>He was my big brother, but somewhere along the way, I became the strong one — the one he looked up to. We didn’t always see eye to eye growing up, and there was pain between us. But we worked through it. We understood each other in the end. And even when we didn’t like each other, we always loved each other. Deeply.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Now, I want to honor him the way he deserves.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>We’re going to compost his body into living soil — something that feels so perfectly him. From that soil, we’ll spread part of him around the tree my dad planted the day Calvin was born, and we’ll plant a new tree to represent his new life in heaven.
</div>
<div>We’ll also use some of his soil to create rock gardens at both my mom’s and dad’s homes — surrounded by the stones and fossils he loved so much.
</div>
<div>(And, being who he was, I know he’d laugh knowing we might use a bit to grow something green in his honor too.)
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>This isn’t just about paying for services.
</div>
<div>It’s about giving my brother a resting place that truly reflects who he was — wild, real, imperfect, and full of life.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>If you can help us make that happen, we’d be forever grateful.
</div>
<div>Every dollar helps us move closer to giving Calvin the send-off he deserves — one that honors his heart, his fight, and the love he left behind.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Thank you for reading his story.
</div>
<div>And if you knew him — or if his story touches you — please share this page.
</div>
<div>Let the world remember Calvin Lee Green, a man who lived with more heart than his body could handle.
