For El Paso Firefighter Lt Rafa

Donation protected
This gofundme page is for a El Paso Firefighter and Navy Veteran that would never hesitate to help another in need, Rafael "Rafa" Rodriguez.  The first time I heard of Rafa was not in person, rather, it was from a newspaper article about a family who lost everything in a house fire a few day before Christmas. The article mentioned an El Paso firefighter who responded to the house fire.  This firefighter went out of his way, the following day, with food, Christmas presents, and cleaning supplies to assist the family get back on their feet. That El Paso firefighter was Rafa.  Rafa, who had no prior relationship with the family, saw a family in need and refused to ignore their need.

Sometime later, after becoming a member of El Paso Fire, I was assigned to Station 24 where I found out that I would have the pleasure of working alongside Rafa.  Having worked for the Fire Dept for over a decade now, I can truly say he is the hardest of workers.  He would never hesitate to help out another firefighter in need.  Furthermore, he would go above and beyond again for the community he has devoted his life to serving and protecting.

While not on duty with El Paso Fire, Rafa works hard at Sierra Providence East as an ER Tech to help maintain a stable income for his family.  To further the point of his hard work, he has been employee of the month several times.

The time has come now where Rafa needs some assistance.  Rafa was recently diagnosed with throat cancer.  He has already begun his treatment.  He has been using his personal time for treatments, travel, and recovery.  Anyone who has had the misfortune of dealing personally with cancer surely knows how expensive it can be when you start to tally up the treatments, medication, food, travel, lodging and miscellaneous expenses.  Unfortunately when his personal time runs out, so too will his paychecks.  Rafa has a wife and daughter that are dependent on him to make ends meet.

Again, this is plea to the Sisters and Brothers of the El Fire Department as well as a plea to the generous citizens of the El Paso Community, which he has so bravely served for 2 decades, to please help any way you can.  Taking a quote from Rafa, who says annually during the MDA Fill the Boot Drive, where firefighters take to the street corners to raise money for MDA Kids, “…every penny matters! It all adds up”.  So I say, please help out anyway you can in reaching our goal.  Every penny matters.  It all adds up.  Thanks for reading.
