2-14-2018 -- For transparency,
some updates on how the funds will get to the McCartney family as that has changed from the original idea. Here is what will happen: the funds will go into the Credit Union that has created the Deputy McCartney Legacy Fund, TAPCO Credit Union. A VP of that Credit Union, Lori Stanaway will accept the funds from GoFundMe into that account, which will then be provided to the McCartney family. This will not change in any way the amount of money the McCartneys recieve. Northwest Crime Stoppers is aware of this change as is our Pierce County Sherriff.

Deputy Daniel McCartney was murdered by a multiple-time felon and suspected home-invasion robber the Deputy had chased from a home where children live. His own little boys will never see Daddy come home again; they are 4,6 and 9 year-old. The Deputy's wife will raise them with pictures and stories of a heroic father who also served his country in combat in the Navy.
The purpose of this fund is simple: remove the burden of immediate financial concerns from the mind of the Deputy's wife. Daniel McCartney stood between us and danger, the least we can do is stand between his family and worries about money.
These funds will be given directly to Northwest Crime Stoppers, the group designated to raise money for the Deputy's family. They are not on GoFundMe and their fundraising link is hard to use.
Todd Herman, a talk radio host at KTTH radio in Seattle--I am typing this--will be responsible for making certain the funds get to NW Crime Stoppers to support the Deputy's Wife and Kids. I am from Seattle, near where the Deputy was murdered and have been very touched while covering this story. I've not met the Deputy or his family, but I have spoken with Pierce County dupities on many occasions. These funds should be for the immediate needs of the Deputy's family: food, clothing, funderal expenses, school expense and the like. I will personally present the money live on air to Pierce Country Sherriff's leaders.
