Fundraiser for Rich Shields funeral

My father-in-law (Richard Shields) is one of the best men that I have ever met and he is also one the kindest. There are not too many people on this earth that can compare to him and that is why I'm creating this GoFundMe. He is a loving husband, father and he has two little granddaughters that love him very much.
In June 2014, Big Rich was diagnosed with lung cancer. His first round of chemo was done on his wife's (Lorie) birthday (September 10th 2014) His last treatment was done on his birthday (November 18th 2014). If you know Big Rich Shields, you would know how much of a fighter he is and how much he used mind over matter to get through the chemotherapy. My father in law served 22 years in the United States Air Force protecting our country. During that time he was exposed to many carcinogenic materials and chemicals because he was a jet mechanic.
After, completing his chemo treatment he was in remission and life was returning to as close to normal as possible for our family... until March 2017. We had found out that the lung cancer that had been in remission had spread to his brain. He was then hospitalized at Sloan Kettering Memorial Hospital. Once again, they started taking daily trips to city after he was released for radiation therapy.
We knew this recovery would be a long one, but we also had faith in our Rich. He started improving under radiation treatment. The cancer remained in the brain and did not spread or grow. However, fibrosis of the lungs was exacerbated by his radiation treatment.
May 2017: Our current situation. My father in law is currently in ICU at Sloan Kettering due to the severity of his fibrosis. He is on a ventilator and has a feeding tube. His wife Lorie, is unable to stay down there every night because of his present status being on the ICU floor. These daily trips are becoming costly. (George Washington bridge tolls, gas, parking, running out of comp time from work) My mother in law is an extremely dedicated wife and has never left his side and she refuses to. This is why I am creating this fundraiser.
I would not wish this on anyone. This man does not deserve this. He is loved by many and he is one hell of a fighter.
