Wander Women Tales of Transgressions in a Border will be published by Hurst Publishers in December 2022. The book focuses on the experiences of migrants worldwide and the invisible and visible borders around their lives created because of their gender.
One of those interviewees is called Alphare and she lives in Kakuma Refugee Camp in Kenya. Alphare left Uganda after being persecuted because of her gender identity so she has been living in the refugee camps since the beginning of the year. She hopes to restart her life soon by moving to the capital city of Nairobi and enrolling at university to study nursing.
Below is a statement from Alphare. Any funds raised will be sent to her and she will use that money to take steps towards leaving the refugee camp. Any help would be much appreciated!
(Many thanks to @emmylupinstudio for the beautiful illustration of Alphare!)
Tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today. However, the passport to the future/tomorrow is Education. While it's realistic to say that no one knows what will happen tomorrow, having an Education under your belt will open the doors to many more opportunities.
Education brings positive mental, financial and social changes. It enhances the knowledge, skill, and intelligence of a person and enables them to lead a successful and prosperous life through the virtue of Education. That is why I want to study nursing in order for me to have a better, greater and brighter future. Not only for me, but my community at large. A community with smarter minds will definitely bring so much to it's people.
Education is an essential as the oxygen is to the lungs and blood is to the heart.
I will be grateful and thankful for your donations.
