Please help us to raise $30,000 in 30 days to build the nursery school a garden so the children can grow vegetables & flowers.
We are Friends of Potrero Hill Nursery School in San Francisco. We've been nurturing preschool children for 17 years. Last year we moved into a new building. Now we need your help to create a garden and outdoor play space for the children.
We need your help to raise $30,000 in 30 days. Please contribute anything you can"”we are deeply grateful for any amount big or small.
Gardening and a connection to the natural world has always been central to our mission and the children. Urban children especially need the chance to escape the stimulation of the city in a space where they can relax, explore and just breathe, without overloading their senses.
Help grow vegetables for the soup the children cook "” The children prepare soup together each week and we're excited for them to gather the vegetables and herbs that they have planted and tended.
Help grow flowers to decorate children's birthday cakes "” We celebrate each child's birthday and we're excited to decorate and surround the cakes with flowers from the gardens.
Help grow natural dyes for creative projects "” we hand-dye silks and fabrics for different celebrations and art productions throughout the year.
Help grow curiosity "” Any garden is a fascinating place for young children, full of the drama of birds and bugs and worms as well as the processes of growth and decay. Caring for plants allows children to become closely acquainted with these and other living organisms. This sparks curiosity and empowers children to learn more about their natural surroundings.
Help grow adventures "” a bamboo wall for hiding, an incredible climbing tree, picnic tables and a stone circle with a maypole for celebrations.
Help grow healthy children "” We find that children have an affinity for plants, and research is beginning to show the benefits of consistent exposure to nature and the tending of a garden: enhanced academic achievement, healthier lifestyles, and environmental stewardship. Not to mention social development by working together cooperatively and all the benefits of being outside in the fresh air.
