Eretore School provides an education that strengthens the Maasai community by respecting Maasai culture, delivering quality instruction, and advocating for the rights and protection of Maasai from FGM (female genital mutilation) and child marriage.
The Spanish founding sponsors ceased funding for water, food, and supplies in June 2020. Students were going to attend anyway. Students already walk quite a distance to reach school and, once there, no access to food/water for 8+ hrs was unimaginable to me. I cannot fathom my students, or any students in the USA, learning under these conditions. Monthly costs for food/water/supplies is $500; I took care of this for June 2020, but I cannot do this alone. I also believe in providing girls with reusable sanitary kits to put an end to period poverty, which prevents many girls from attending school one week each month.
I set a goal of 6k to make it through June 2021. Won't you please consider donating what you can? Every little amount adds up! Please visit our fundraising platform @eretorerising on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Linkedin. The website will be up in a few days! There you may see these beautiful children, their dedicated teachers, the founder and director (a Maasai himself and pictured on this page with his students), and videos of them playing and learning and singing.
With indigenous cultures under attack regarding their land, their rights, and their way of life, you can be part of the change and protection. Their best hope is education which doesn't attempt to "Westernize" their life or discredit their culture along with education that leads to advocacy and equality. This is what your donation will provide. Thank you for reading and I humbly ask for your support. If you should ever find yourself in Tanzania, the school and teachers welcome your visit with open arms. It will be a life-changing experience, I promise you.
I hope to create a partnership with established organizations as I am just a school teacher on the other side of the world who has been to this village, knows the teachers, is in frequent communication with them, tracks the funding, and knows that this work fills my heart. However, with an established partner, I could do so much more.
Their Spanish founding sponsors also ceased funding teacher salaries in September 2020, and there is another GoFundMe specifically for teacher salaries if that cause resonates with you. It is called "Help Support Our Teachers". Here is the link to be a part of the one-and-only source of pay for these teachers: gofundme.com/f/9qvm3-help-support-our-teachers
FYI: There is a payment processing fee of 2.9% plus $0.30 per donation that goes directly to GoFundMe. Payment processing fees are unavoidable on any crowdfunding platform because all online payments need to be verified and securely transferred. Please do not feel pressured to "leave a tip". I won't know if you did or not, and I cannot remove that statement. Finally, please like and follow us on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn @eretorerising. We are in need of followers and I'd like to increase availability. Please share with your friends! Updated 12-13-20
