Help Provide food, shelter and education to a family of 7 siblings and a toddler.
The family consists of siblings Genet (26), Abdulahi (21), Amina (19), Shumi (17), Habftamu (14), Geleto (13), Sabontu (10) and Genet’s baby Ruth (18 months). They are currently living on a small piece of inherited property with an old concrete home on it.
Abdulahi and Amina took over complete care of their younger siblings for 18 months while Genet served an LDS mission to Ghana. Genet hopes to earn a nursing degree so she can support her daughter and siblings.
Abdulahi hopes to receive his mission call soon and to earn a degree in electrical engineering after his mission.
Amina is in 10th grade and hopes to own her own beauty shop someday. She works hard everyday to help care for her siblings.
Shumi is in 12th grade and intends to become a famous soccer player (his skills are renowned in the community). If that doesn’t work out he wants to follow Genet’s example and become a nurse.
Habftamu is in 8th grade and wants to study engineering in college. He loves math and physics.
Geleto is also in 8th grade and wants to eventually become a doctor.
Sabontu is in 4th grade and also want to become a doctor.
Unemployment is very high in Ethiopia and when one of the older children can find work, it only pays a few dollars/day. We are hoping to raise $4500 for them to be used as follows:
$1200 can buy enough carbohydrates (teff, wheat, corn) to satisfy the needs of the family for 1 year. It will also provide some vegetables each week and protein on special occasions.
$480 to put Genet through 1 year of nursing school in a nearby town.
$3000 to repair their home to the point it will keep rain, wind and snakes out. This will bring the home up to a decent condition.
