Food for starving people-Bhopal COVID19 Lockdown

Donation protected
Just last week, the Indian government announced a nationwide lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic sweeping across the world. Hundreds of millions of day-wage workers and day-labourers were almost put out of work overnight. Many of these families live day-to-day and do not have significant savings of money or stocks of food. In a horrible turn of events many communities across the country are literally starving due to their lack of financial resources.

In the city of Bhopal in the central state of Madhya Pradesh, India, my dear friend and international journalist of 15-years, Ravi Mishra, has been assisting the communities across his home city. In the last few days he has spent USD$5000 of his own money to buy supplies to help 28 families. Ravi has also managed to get help for another 100 families with the help of Mr Abu of the Delhi Youth Association, but that is only enough for three-days. However, he needs more help and that’s where we come in.

Around 500 Indian rupees, about USD$6.50, will feed a family for three days. So the more we can raise  the more help we can provide. Ravi has sourced a food supplier and is driving around now distributing food to families, of which, he can prove with their personal details and phone numbers. These funds are needed immediately for people in need. Many told Ravi that they had been surviving off water for two-days before he arrived. The lock-down of India is meant to go for another 15-days this means the food that will be distributed will be of ever more importance.

Ravi is an internationally known fixer, producer, and journalist, and has worked with the some of the top and most trustworthy publications on the globe such as The New York Times, National Geographic, TIME, AFP, The Sydney Morning Herald, and many others. Much of his personal work focuses on child labor and women’s rights, and in addition he is an ambassador to The People’s Vigilance Committee, one of India’s leading human rights organisations. I have also personally worked with him, and can 110% vouch for his honesty, dedication, and hard-work. His website can be found at: www.fixerinindia.com

Right now, Ravi is spending his own money to supply food for these people and it would cost us too much money to send funds in multiple transactions, so we will wait until we see how much we can raise by the  end of the lockdown. So all these donations will go directly to him to subsidise the cost he is bearing himself for this incredible effort via Transferwise.com once the Indian government COVID-19 lockdown ends.

As far as I know there is no Indian platform where Ravi can raise the money himself, and he is simply also too busy organising and distributing food, so we are going through me in Australia first. To give you an idea of who I am, I am a good friend of Ravi's and am an Australian documentary photographer that mostly works on environmental and social development issues. Ravi and I have been working on issues together since 2016 in India. My website can be found at www.ashleycrowther.org
