Food Security for School Children-Little Bay, JA

In 2019 my 10 year old son and I visited Little Bay, Jamaica, where my grandfather was raised. We met the Principal of the All Ages School, Mr. Keron King. I was impressed at how he and his staff were going above and beyond the call of duty to ensure that the students had access to resources they would not otherwise have.
Small community schools in rural Jamaica are grossly underfunded, and with CoVid, Mr. King had been personally delivering class materials to his students on a motorcycle. Since January 2021, the children are now back in the classrooms. The children eat breakfast and lunch at school, yet the Ministry of Education is only able to provide $14 USD per day to feed 186 students. Therefore, Mr. King has been buying, and raising chickens to provide food for the school children.
We have raised $5,050 so far. Our goal is to raise an additional $9,650 USD. This will allow Mr. King to buy enough chickens so that he can feed the children, AND sell the rest of the chickens to generate revenue to buy more chickens. This will also provide him with the building materials to expand his chicken coops to accommodate enough chickens to make the chicken operation self-sustaining.
This community relies heavily on tourism to survive, and with CoVID, the tourism industry has been hit hard. With the $9,650, the chicken farm can be self-sustaining within 6 weeks, and provide food security for the children!
Mr. King is a hero. He has put Little Bay All Ages School on the map with all of the work he has done for the children. This project will provide him with huge relief knowing that his students are fed, and can feed themselves with their own resources.
My father is 89 years old, and he cried when I told him of this project. The thought of a child going hungry is unbearable to him. He has put many children in Jamaica through school. My father connected me with Gary Robinson, the founder of Cornerstone Jamaica, who put me in touch with Mr. King. I am so grateful to all of these heroes who do so much for the children of Jamaica.
Mr. King is a gracious man, and so extremely grateful to everyone who helps him make his visions for the children a reality.
