Food for Cottage Grove Homeless Kids (COVID-19)

Donation protected
We need your help. Two hundred and fifty one South Lane School District students are experiencing homelessness this school year. 251. Many of them struggle to eat.

Today, times are extra hard -- we are in the midst of a global pandemic. We are trying our best to slow the spread of the coronavirus. Our school district is closed. Employers are cutting hours or closing altogether. We are practicing social distancing. We are buying basic necessities like toilet paper and food.

But some students and families don't have these luxuries.
They don't have savings to live off while work is closed. They don't have a home to hunker down in. They don't have the funds to stock up on food.

That's why we started this campaign. Because together, we can help.

Our goal is to provide a $50 emergency grocery gift card to every one of the 251 homeless students in SLSD. That's $12,550. If we blow our goal out of the water, we'll increase the amount we give to each student.

We realize this is a BIG goal. But the Cottage Grove community is generous and we get great joy from caring for our own.

We can do this. No gift is too big or too small.

On behalf of the recipient students and families, THANK YOU!

Questions:

Q: How long is this fundraiser open?
A: Until April 28th, the date SLSD is scheduled to reopen.

Q: What if you don't reach your goal?
A: We can and we will.
A2: But, if we do fall short of our goal, we will prioritize gift cards to the most vulnerable students. The more donations we receive, the further we can reach into our community and the more students we can help.

Q: How will you get the grocery cards to students?
A: SLSD's McKinney-Vento Liaison will deliver the gift cards to the right students/families.

Q: Do you need any help?
A: Yes. Our next step involves trying to leverage this money for discounted grocery cards. Please contact us if you have connections with Cottage Grove Grocery Outlet, Safeway, or Walmart.

Q: Who is coordinating this fundraiser?
A: SLSD's McKinney-Vento Liaison, who works with all of SLSD's homeless students and families. This is not an official South Lane School District fundraiser.

Q: What's the McKinney-Vento Program?
A: Visit the SLSD website for more information: http://bit.ly/slsdmvprogram
