Greetings Every Beauty ~

I am excited to share  I have been given the opportunity to do a promotional tour of my book Natural Hair Coloring: How to Use Henna and Other Pure Herbal Pigments for Chemical Free Beauty, Foreword by Rosemary Gladstar , the mother of modern day herbalism and endorsed by Dr. Christiane Northrup , premier women's health doctor  [Storey Publishing , 2016]

Ever since publishing this groundbreaking book two years ago it has been my intention to “take it on the road” to seed another beauty possibility and help people the world over to learn how to use herbs, nature’s naturally beneficial plant-based pigment alternatives, to achieve salon quality color.  I am on a mission to help people discover and celebrate their unique beauty; to care for themselves in ways that don’t expose them or their families to toxic chemicals and the health risks to people and planet tied to their use.

Within the two short years since it’s publication my book has been translated into Norwegian, French and Polish. An exciting honor as well as an indicator that the world is poised to receive this labor of love resource. I know first hand that the path this knowledge can open up of natural personal and environmental wellness is transformational at its core.

Thirty years ago I first became impassioned by the intersection of environmental health and personal care when I was catalyzed into environmental activism to ensure the safety of our children’s drinking water and air quality when our community was sited for a regional landfill and incinerator.  I was newly in charge of all six of their hair cuttings after a dear cosmetologist friend died, which guided me to cosmetology school intending then to create a toxic free salon.

Through my activism I studied the effects of toxins on the human body as well as our natural world; what we put on our bodies impacts both our personal and environmental health, and a healthy environment ensures a healthy quality of life. Eventually I created Faces of Astarte Natural Wellness Beauty Salon, and Spa , which has become host to The Astarte Collective , a group of women entrepreneur healing artists practicing out of our Little Falls Canal Place storefront, located on the Mohawk River and Erie Canal, where I began using pure herbal pigments, (henna, indigo and others) to color hair without toxic chemicals creating client-specific color recipes, and after many years of trial and error, collecting data and results, I wrote the book I am preparing to share in service to transforming all the lives it touches.

Henna, the world's oldest known herbal cosmetic, when used with other herbs creates a wide range of colors with great healthy hair results. The herbal colors are mixed to a mud consistency and applied to hair, therefore I loving call users mudheads and the process mudding, and my friends/clients call me “the mudder goddess”.

I continue to follow where the mud leads as my relationship to these beautiful color filled healing herbs deepen and a book tour presents itself, offering workshops, personal consults and tea talks with me in book stores, private homes, and alternative salons as I drive across the country meeting current and potential remote clients, sharing tangible knowledge and skills, empowering those chemically sensitive, as well as the average person wanting to live more plant based and ecological, incorporating natural herbal hair coloring.

Transitioning away from toxic chemical beauty is important, like all personal work it ties into political work. Our ability to empower ourselves, to remove our monetary support from toxic manufacturers poisoning us and the natural resources we need to survive, and to care for ourselves in a capitalistic world that does so much to suppress our well-being it is deeply political and highly transformative work that is rooted in self-determination and sustainable living practices.

So here’s the exciting  part about where you can become a part of this movement. We will be stopping in Washington, DC, Asheville, & Charlotte NC, Atlanta & Birmhingham, AL, New Orleans, LA, Austin, TX, Sedona, AZ, Albqurque, NM, Santa Cruz, CA, Bay Area, Sebastopol, CA, Ashland and Portland, OR.   If you would like to host a house party in these cities to support the sharing of our mission, we promise a fun filled learning experience complete with live hair coloring demo.  Should you prefer to contribute towards much needed supplies and expenses for while I am on the road, or my return travel home (got miles?) making this tour possible, I have created this GoFundMe venture, projecting cost at around $2,000.00 ❤️

I am grateful to live in a time of community-backed projects made possible by social platforms that allow visionary folks such as myself and so many creative others to share the gifts we came to bring forward.  I am humbled to ask, blessed to receive and honored to have you in my life, thank you for being abundant joy and love.

Beauty & Blessings ~ Naturally,
Christine
