Following Magellan’s Route – with Zero Emissions

Donation protected
If we want to prove that a brighter future is possible for our planet, then we need to do impressive things in ways that show our respect for the environment.

It’s not enough to introduce new technology, and it’s not enough to make promises about cutting emissions.

We need to inspire people. We need to take a stand for the same magnificence and accomplishment that stirred people’s passions and imaginations so many centuries ago when explorers first took to the seas and ventured beyond the points that their maps ended.

Take Ferdinand Magellan, for example. He took a dangerous route around the world, making it all the way around Earth 500 years ago.

Now, we would like to follow his route – and to follow it as part of the Zero Emission Challenge.

At Nova Luxe Yachts, we know that this is possible. The thing is, we need to convert a diesel sailboat into an all-electric one. Jimmy Cornell, the world-renowned sailor, will be there to lead the way, making the same circumnavigation that Magellan and Juan Sebastian Elcano did between 1519 and 1522.

Our all-electric boat will become a symbol of the great feats that are possible – and the future that is within our reach, if we are willing to believe in the importance of the task before us, to cut down on emissions and save ourselves from the threat of man-made climate change.

Starting in Seville in October 2021 and then stopping in Tenerife, Jimmy Cornell and Nova Luxe will travel to Rio de Janeiro, Montevideo, and Puerto Julian before crossing the Magellan Strait, then onward to Punta Arenas, Puka Puka, Guam, the Marianna Islands, Cebu, and finally Mactan, where Magellan passed in 1521.

30,000 miles in 8-9 months. We are ready to do this, but we need your help.

Our Fundraising Goal

To cover the costs of converting our diesel sailboat into an all-electric one, we are looking to raise $150,000. This will cover all of our costs, enabling us to stay on schedule and prove that zero-emission travel is possible once again.

To say thanks, we will keep all of our contributors updated throughout the voyage, filming a documentary series and crediting you at the end of each episode as well as mentioning major donors by name within the episodes.

Contribute now and play your role in this historic initiative!

Risks & Challenges

Because we are professionals in the boating industry, we are confident that we can follow through on our timeline, sticking to our October 2021 launch. If we do run into any delays, we will be sure to send out an update, keeping all of our contributors in the loop from here on out.

One More Way to Help
