We Need Help with Medical Supplies

Tax deductible
Who Are We

We are the Ekoi Association of North America (EANA), originally from Cross River State, Southeast Nigeria. Because of the many medical problems troubling the Ekoi people – we, the sons and daughters of the Ekoi tribe in diaspora – have gathered ourselves to help raise funds for medical supplies for Diabetes and Hypertension detection and monitoring, and to provide educational resources and materials underlining the dangers of these diseases to our people. Our goal is to prevent the debilitating effects and losses caused by these diseases and to return the good people of Ekoi back to good health. We hope this GoFundMe campaign, our personal contribution, dedication, and volunteering will benefit our efforts and ultimately achieve our goal.

Our Cause

The purpose for this GoFundMe campaign is to raise funds for medical supplies to local clinics and pharmacies in the Ekoi area of Cross River State, as well as to create and raise awareness of the dangers of neglecting basic medical checkups, poor tracking and record keeping of vital health signs, and the insensitivities to undiagnosed illnesses and diseases.

Why We Care

Diabetes and hypertension are growing concerns in Cross River State and particularly among the Ekoi people. Our people now suffer chronic cases of diabetes which remain undiagnosed for a long period. So far, we have observed that simple monitoring of sugar levels is one reasons why many of our youths and elders become incapacitated in their prime, and why treatable diseases are not diagnosed early until they reach a terminal stage, and sometimes posthumously. Our people have suffered protracted and untimely losses of love ones to diabetes and other ailments due to poor medical supplies and lack of  access to medical professionals and hospitals.

Also, among the Ekoi people hypertension has been termed the “silent killer” because there are no signs or symptoms for villagers to use as markers to detect early stages of the disease before it becomes too late and unmanageable. The EANA people believe blood pressure devices and medication can help improve the hypertensive situations in Cross River State. We also hope that proper education on life-style changes in addition these monitoring devices will help detect the sicknesses early and cause them to seek help on time, too. These measures will eventually prolong the life of our people as well as their productive years and promote good health habits.

Your Donations

All the money donated to this campaign will go towards procuring blood pressure medications, devices, sugar monitoring devices and strips, medication, and to develop easy-to-read pamphlets that show the importance of life-style changes to diseases. These pamphlets will outline the relevance of exercise, routine blood pressure and sugar checks, and early diagnosis and treatment options for hypertension and diabetes. We hope to raise $50,000 from this GoFundMe campaign to cover the cost of these medical items, their transportation and distribution to the Ekoi people. We will keep the donors updated of our progress, our participation in this effort and of all the volunteers and the faces of our beneficiaries in pictures to show how their donations change their lives.
