After being told several times to create a fundraiser to help me buy medical supplies, I finally go backwards.
So here is my story. Since I was born I have had type 1 neurofibromatosis and have had a few operations. I always walked with a limp, but it was okay in everyday life.
But for 2/3 years my state of health has started to deteriorate little by little. I started walking with a cane in 2018, part of 2019 with a walker and a standard drugstore wheelchair. In November 2019, one morning it was impossible to get up or with great difficulty to get into the chair. I urgently called the teacher who is following me for my illness. In 3 weeks I had exams, saw a neurosurgeon. Finally, to have the operation urgently because I had a compression in the spinal cord which gave me paralysis in the legs and arms. And what was lost was not sure to come back as before.
So on December 9th I underwent a laminectomy at the level of cervical C3, C4, C5, C6. This takes about 5 hours. But on December 15 it had to be reopened because he was bleeding, so he had to be stopped. I then started rehabilitation at the beginning of January at the rehabilitation center
On February 6th it was decided to do another operation because he had little improvement, I had even regressed. I could no longer eat on my own, wash or dress. I was dependent on nurses and caregivers. I undergo a new cervical laminectomy C0, C1, C2. Then I spent several days in intensive care. Then from February 24 I attacked re-education thoroughly.
After 6 months I can use my arms, eat alone, wash alone, dress alone, I can walk a little with a walker, see canes. Much progress because the doctors did not bet on me to recover. But I succeeded. Since September, I am back home. But continues the rehabilitation in the day hospital for two more months.
If I make this pot, it is to ask for help with my daily life, and to get back to a normal life. To do this, you have to use a light and active wheelchair for everyday life, which helps in getting around.
But the need for equipment also concerns outside the home to move around, regain my autonomy thanks to an adapted vehicle and live like all young people of my age.
I already have a vehicle but it needs to be adapted with a loading arm for the chair and put away.
There may be other costs in the future, but the most important thing today is my chair and the loading arm.
The adapted chair is worth € 4,200
The loading arm between 10K € and 13K €.
