<div>My name is Karla Alarcon Hernandez, and today I am asking for support with the heaviest heart I have ever carried. On November 18, my dad, Carlos Alberto Alarcón Avila, was taken by ICE while he was working at Bro-Tex in Saint Paul. Our lives changed in one moment. My dad has lived in the Saint Paul area for many years, working long hours and doing everything he can to care for us. He has no criminal record, no history of harm, nothing but a life of hard work and love for his family.

<div>My dad came here looking for safety and opportunity, like so many immigrants who give everything to build a better life. He has been part of this community for years. He works, he pays taxes, he helps his neighbors, he shows up. And yet, like so many of our people, he is being treated like he does not belong. What is happening to immigrant families right now is heartbreaking and unjust, and we are living that reality today.

<div>My dad has done everything he can to grow and contribute. He has been taking his GED classes, staying committed to his education because he believes in learning and improving himself. He has been involved with the West Side Community Organization, attending meetings and being part of conversations that help strengthen the neighborhood he calls home. And for more than ten years, my dad was the cook at Turkey To Go at the Minnesota State Fair. If you have ever waited in that long line or tasted one of those famous turkey sandwiches, you tasted his work. He served thousands of Minnesotans every summer with pride and dedication. This is the kind of man he is — always giving, always working, always showing up for others.

<div>For me, this is personal beyond words. My dad is the reason why I do the work I do. He taught me to serve people, to stand up for others, and to believe in dignity. Everything I do in my work, everything I have studied, every family I support, comes from watching him push through hardship with courage and faith. He is the heart of our home.

<div>And now our family is trying to survive something we never imagined. We are meeting with lawyers and trying to navigate a system that feels cold and overwhelming. The legal fees are more than we can manage alone. My dad was the main provider in our home, and this sudden loss has shaken us in every way, emotionally and financially.

<div>My little sister is only nine years old, and she is hurting the most. My dad is her safe place. He takes her to gymnastics, picks her up after school, takes her to church classes, and is involved in everything she loves. She keeps asking when he is coming back. She does not understand why this happened, and there is no easy way to explain it to her.

<div>We are a strong family, but we cannot carry this on our own. This fundraiser will help us cover legal costs, support my mom through this crisis, and give us a fighting chance to bring my dad home.
