Let a dad be a dad

Separation and divorce can be a very difficult time for everyone, especially for children. Family court attempts to make decisions on what is best for the child. However, there are times when even the best judge may fall vulnerable to stereo typed thinking.  There is an outdated belief that mothers are more nurturing, similarly people used to think that most men weren’t interested in active parenting. Many fathers want to be actively involved in their children’s lives, teaching them survival, life skills, encouraging them, build self-esteem, teach responsibility and to be a team player.

Truth is kids need dads. Children benefit from having both mother and father and shared parenting. Kids miss spending time with their dads. Studies prove that consistent shared parenting greatly benefit children’s self-stem especially during separation. For kids, divorce and separation is a scary time. Children often blame themselves. They can feel lost and vulnerable. To help them thru a consistent ongoing parenting relationship with both parents can give them a feeling of security that they need.

Our friend is a wonderful parent, that genuinely cares about the ongoing health and welfare of his son. With many marriages, relationships ending with separation or divorce, all of us have either gone thru this or have someone close to us that has. From these experiences we know that fighting the courts for what we know is not only right, fair, and best for our children can be very costly. Not only to our bank accounts but to our emotions. This father is not looking to walk away from his financial responsibility to his son. But, asking for Fifty percent shared parenting shouldn’t be this hard.

A small donation would go a long way to try and achieve what is right. Let’s work together to give not just this dad but all dads their rights and do what we know is best for our kids. Let dads be dads, and share the responsibility of raising their children.
