My name is Ashlyn Erlandson. I am currently organizing a fundraiser, and looking to raise some money for some friends who were recently plagued with some news about their son that will affect their whole lives going forward.
Their names are Derek and Janelle Larson, they are a young couple who wed this past September. They have a beautiful baby boy who was born in March of 2013 named Cole. Cole is the smiliest little guy, so full of life, and already has quite the personality, his laugh is contagious, and he truly is an amazing little guy, just like his parents.
A few weeks before Derek and Janelle's wedding, Cole was officially diagnosed with a neurological disorder known as Cerebral Palsy. As you may know the condition is extremely complex, meaning the treatment will likely be as difficult to deal with as the disability itself. Cole will most likely spend the better part of his youth enduring surgeries, and endless hours of therapy, among other treatments, which can be a lot to deal with for a family emotionally and financially.
My goal is to alleviate a little bit of financial stress from Derek and Janelle and to show ours and everyone involved in their lives support for their whole family as they take on parenting at a much different, and more intense level than many other families. Also to show a little more about the character of this couple, when I told them about the fundraising efforts and how we wanted to raise money for them, they insisted that at least half (if not all) the proceeds go to the Ronald McDonald house in Saskatoon, where they have spent a lot of time in the early stages of discovering Cole's disability, and where they will spend a lot of time as the treatments and therapy intensifies.
