Fly Melissa & Maeve to Ontario

Many of you who know and love Melissa Crum & Maeve Winchester will have heard of or been lucky enough to know their dear friend Laura Robertson. The three of them met at UBC as wee first years, becoming friends at UBC and going on to live together during their university years. Together they were goofy, funny, charming and weird.
This past Monday Laura was killed in a plane accident with her parents, Joe and Anita. Laura was just at the beginning of her post-grad life, having returned to her hometown, when she died. It's impossible to overstate how unexpected and devastating this news is. Maeve & Mel had a long-standing plan to roadtrip East to visit Laura after they all graduated university, and hoped this plan would come to life next summer after Mel finished school.
We've heard from so many of you that you'd like to help Mel & Maeve say goodbye to Laura and manage through this awful time. If you have the means to donate, we're hoping to mitigate the costs of flying to Ontario for the service in St. Catharines. The financial costs of taking time from work and flying across the country last minute to do so are significant, so any&all assistance is deeply appreciated. As recent grads the financial burden of this is unexpected and insurmountable. This won't be the trip they wanted to take with Laura, but it is an opportunity to say goodbye to Laura alongside other people who loved her and to represent all those who can't make the trip to Ontario themselves.
The celebration of life will be held on Friday, August 10. We want to book tickets for Maeve & Mel to travel after work on Thursday.
We estimate costs will be ~$3320 total
- 2x roundtrip flights from Victoria to Toronto - $1200
- 2x roundtrip bus tickets from Nanaimo to Victoria - $120
- Food for four days - $400
- Time off work - $800
Any extra funds will be used to fund the Laura Robertson Memorial at UBC.
