Flutes for Vets!

Flutes for Vets was born out of a desire to help veterans manage their lives with more peace.

We are under the fiscal umbrella of the Culture of Peace Alliance  (cultureofpeacealliance.org) operating as a 501c3 nonprofit with tax deductible donations!

Since June of 2017 we have been teaching veterans (and active duty military) and have recently started including immediate family members as well.  We provide Free Native American style flutes and classes on how to play. After completing 12 hours instruction, participants are qualified to receive a wooden flute from our inventory of donated flutes.

Learning to play the flute adds another dimension of increased confidence and a tool for immediate calming, that surpasses just listening to someone else play. The sound of these flutes is relaxing and can calm and focus the mind and body like meditation does.  Recent research reinforces our experience as flute players and flute music listeners with instant relief from physical, mental and emotional distress in veterans when they play the flute. It can also help vets alleviate symptoms of PTSD, mental, emotional and physical issues and help them transcend negative influences on feelings and behaviors.

Once this program is off the ground in Arizona (already in Tucson and Sierra Vista), it will be duplicated all over the country where there is a concentration of Veterans!

Your support is Hugely appreciated! There are over 20 million veterans receiving services at VA networks, and many more who aren't. A large percentage of those Vets are suffering with service and non service related issues; physical, emotional and mental. This program is designed to reach as many of those as is possible, through a network of Veterans supporting each other.

If we can bring some relief to our service men and women wouldn't that be worth giving up a cup of coffee/day for a month ($2/day for 30 days =$60)?

This is a great opportunity to give to those who have fought to protect your rights and to help those fellow comrades who could use this opportunity to improve their own well being! If you can't give financially, but are interested in helping this program, please reach out at flutesforvets at gmail.com. If you are a Veteran interested in receiving a flute and classes please contact us as well! See a write up in the Natural Awakenings Magazine here !
Thanks so much!

Flutes for Vets!

Testimonial:

“I am a vet of over 27 years’ service. Ten with the Coast Guard and the remainder with the Maine Air National Guard. I began playing the Native American flute in 2015.  I had been fighting depression and anxiety for years, but in the beginning of May the suicidal thoughts became too much and friends took me for help.

When I got home from the treatment facility, I took to playing my wife's flute.  I can't read a lick of music, but with this instrument it is more about playing a feeling.  What I found is that the flute allowed me to express emotions that I fought to articulate.   My wife has since bought me my own flute.  I play frequently.  It goes with me when I go camping and day hiking.  I even bring it to work.  When the anxiety of work gets to me, I just take a couple of minutes and play it a few minutes.  It helps he relax and to focus.

I stumbled across the value of the flute as therapy by complete accident.  It is a wonderful instrument that can bring calm to one's life.”
