Established in the late 1800’s, the Grant County Fair has been operating in Herman, MN. Governed by a 21-member Board of Directors, and countless other volunteers, the fair operates under a budget of approximately $150,000, and works hard to put on a fantastic event for our community, year after year.
Currently the fairgrounds is not ADA accessible, therefore, it is near to impossible for the handicapped, disabled and a number of senior citizens to attend and enjoy the annual Grant County Fair. For the health,well-being, and simple equitable enjoyment of our senior citizens, handicapped,and disabled, we are working towards obtaining funding to complete the renovations necessary to bring our grounds into ADA compliance, for all to enjoy the fair! Attendees come from a 75-mile radius, and over 12,000 people attend each year. To provide a family-friendly event for all to enjoy, admission is FREE.
Our plan is to building one handicapped accessible bathroom building that will also contain two ADA compliant offices. We would also like to put in an ADA compliant sidewalk to make some areas of the fairgrounds more easily accessible, as the ground is sometimes too uneven for some of our friends, family and community members them to easily get around.
We are working hard to identify potential grant opportunities, and would very much appreciate your support in helping us achieve our goal of $150,000! Every little bit helps, and the more we can raise, the better our chances in obtaining a grant to help us complete our project. The project includes demolition, building removal, construction and bathroom equipment. We hope to utilize existing volunteers to decrease the total cost of labor. We are happy to have already received donations from Ag Country, and the Elbow Lake Firemen.
Our ultimate goal is to raise enough money, so we are able to have the fair ADA accessible by July 1, 2019. Next year will be our 125th Anniversary, and we can celebrate our new 'cans' then!
