Floyd the Teacup’s Vet Bills

Floyd is a 12 year old teacup chihuahua that up until a few days ago me, my family and vets thought was a healthy dog.
Last week she she had a small tumble so we took her to the vet. They sent us home with pain medicine and told us she’s be fine in a week or so.
After a few days we took her to the ER because she looked like she was in a lot of pain.
That’s when the emergency vet mentioned a possible Pyometra.
A Pyometra is a pus-filled infection in the uterus. It can be life-threatening
To be sure though, a series of expensive tests were necessary. They gave us an estimated surgery cost of around 2,500 and up.
After many tests and second opinions (totaling over $1,500) Floyd went into emergency surgery last night (Friday June 1) around 10 pm.
Her surgery was successful and best case scenario she will be back home in 24 hours.
Her total vet bills after surgery are going to be over $5,000.
Floyd was first my Wife’s late mother’s emotional support dog. My wife was asked by her mother to please make sure her beloved dog was taken good care of. Though I never got to meet Mel’s mother I feel the responsibility to honor her wish.
Now Floyd is my emotional support and my wife and I never thought twice about doing what had to be done to save her life. Even as the vet bills rose, she is our baby.
Floyd is spunky, sweet and fearless. All 4.5 pounds of her instantly endear everyone that meets her.
