Flora's guts are full of tumors, and we gotta them them out of there.
Flora is a dear friend of mine - we've known each other for many years, as improv team mates and musical collaborators. Recently, Flora got some bad news. I'll let her explain the details in her own words:
"Hello Beautiful Humans. I am Flora; I'm 31 and was just diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. On November 27th, 2017, I went to the hospital for pain from unexplained fluid build up in my abdominal cavity, after over a year of battling what everyone thought was some type of IBS. ER doctors found lesions in my liver and pancreas during a CT Scan and I was immediately admitted for more tests, including a liver biopsy and paracentesis. The doctors seemed a little baffled and a bit worried because I was so young for this type of cancer, and have no family history of it. On December 4th, 2017 I received my official diagnosis: Stage 4 Pancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumors (PNETs.) Stage 4, because it had metastasized to my liver and was inoperable.
They immediately put me on a monthly hormone shot to control my symptoms, and started me on oral chemo in an effort to shrink the tumors in my liver. Due to the location and size of the tumors, the plan is to continue for 2-3 cycles of oral chemo and continue to monitor my progress. I am hoping to explore other treatment options through Dana Farber Cancer Institute."
Flora's friends are getting together to help make sure she can afford the cost of her treatment, which includes paying down her insurance deductable, uncovered costs of chemotherapy, and travel expenses. We set up this GoFundMe to make sure Flora doesn't have to worry about financial stuff while she's recovering. Anything you can contribute would be very much appreciated by all of us.
