Flood Relief for Remote Villages by Shabelle River

My family and I would like to contribute to the local fundraising efforts that are currently in place to help provide aid to the victims of the recent flooding occurring in Central Somalia, along the Shabelle River. We have family members and friends who are affected in the remote villages that are located about 20 km away from Beledweyne. Some of the names of these villages include Kabxanlay, Garsweyne, and Bardaalay.
The effects of climate change on this region have been exceptionally dire, as a report from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations showed that there had been above-average moderate to heavy rain fall which caused the river levels at the Shabelle River near Beledweyne to rise over the past month. The flooding over this time frame ultimately culminated in the displacement of over 370,000 individuals in the area surrounding Beledweyne (according to the United Nation Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs report as of November 6, 2019 ). According to the Associated Press (article written by Abdi Guled), there have been 22 documented deaths, but it is estimated that there are even more individuals who are missing and swept away by the flooding waters. In addition to the immediate needs of food, shelter, clean water, and other basic living essentials, there is growing concern about increased disease incidence/prevalence in this specific region. The Somali Red Crescent Society (SRCS), an independent non-political humanitarian organization based in Somalia, fears that there will soon be deadly outbreaks of "malaria, diarrhea, and other infectious diseases." The main hospital in the region is flooded, and many individuals are cut-off from the clinics run by SRCS according to Abdi Abdullahi. Abdullahi leads the SRCS operations that are based in the Beledweyne region. While there is a clinic based in Eljale, located 10km from Beledweyne, not everyone has access to services that are provided there. Efforts between the SRCS and the International Committee of the Red Cross have primarily revolved around providing tarpaulins, mosquito nets, cooking utensils, and water treatment tablets to some of the families left homeless by the floods.
The purpose of this specific fundraiser is to help the remote villages that have not received as much access to the aid from the overarching relief efforts and work in collaboration with them. My father and I have direct connection to Maxamed Daahir Macalin Nuur, who is based in Kabxanlay (located 20 km west from the major city Beledweyne). He is a trusted individual, and he will work in providing people in Kabxanlay (as well as the surrounding remote villages) with access to food, water, mosquito nets, medications, and shelter.
The goal currently is to raise $5,000 to start making an effort towards ameliorating the current short-term needs of this community, as well as establish the groundwork for long-term aid work for these villages.
(Updates will be posted periodically here, and any amount of money that is raised through this GoFundMe will be sent directly to Maxamed Daahir Nuur who will immediately begin providing aid to the people from his town).
