On the night of November 12, 2019, the region of Venice, including the small island of Pellestrina, with a population of less than 4000 people, was devastated by historic flooding that reached a record height of 6 feet. The island of Pellestrina sits between mainland Italy and the Adriatic Sea, for which it sustained major damage. Flooding has continued over the past few days and water is expected to rise again over the weekend of Nov. 16-17, 2019.
The citizens of Pellestrina are in immediate need of funds to replace homes, belongings, and clothing. Through this campaign we are hoping to alleviate some of the financial burden of those in Pellestrina.
The cost to the region, according to Mayor of Venice, Luigi Brugnaro, will exceed one billion Euro.
As funds are collected for Pellestrina, they will be sent to Federico Menetto , a local businessman working on the ground to help affected families. He will also work with local officials and organizations, in order to identify individuals and families that are most in need. He will then distribute the funds.
It is estimated that the ground floor apartments of 500 residences are now condemned. That number may grow over the weekend when waters crest again.
Two persons died as a result of the flooding on November 12, and both were citizens of Pellestrina.

Nella notte del 12 novembre 2019, la regione di Venezia, compresa la piccola isola di Pellestrina, con una popolazione di meno di 4000 persone, è stata devastata da inondazioni storiche che hanno raggiunto un'altezza record di piu' di un metro . L'isola di Pellestrina si trova tra l'Italia continentale e il mare Adriatico, per il quale ha subito gravi danni. Le inondazioni sono continuate negli ultimi giorni e si prevede che l'acqua si rialzi nuovamente nel fine settimana del 16-17 novembre 2019.
I cittadini di Pellestrina hanno immediatamente bisogno di fondi per sostituire case, oggetti e vestiti. Attraverso questa campagna speriamo di alleviare alcuni degli oneri finanziari di quelli di Pellestrina.
Il costo alla regione, secondo il sindaco di Venezia, Luigi Brugnaro, supererà un miliardo di euro.
Man mano che i fondi vengono raccolti, verranno inviati a Federico Menetto , un uomo d'affari locale che lavora sul campo per aiutare le famiglie colpite. Lavorerà anche con funzionari e organizzazioni locali, al fine di identificare le persone e le famiglie più bisognose. Distribuirà quindi i fondi.
Si stima che gli appartamenti al piano terra di 500 residenze siano ora inagibili. Quel numero può aumentare durante il fine settimana quando le acque si ribellano di nuovo.
Due persone sono morte a seguito dell'inondazione del 12 novembre ed entrambi erano cittadini di Pellestrina.
