In Gavin’s honor, I have started CapeIvy.com to provide as many fleece poncho capes as possible to chronically ill children who courageously fight for their health in and out of hospitals.
As a parent of a child who spent years in and out of hospitals before he lost his 12 year battle to a rare form of CVID (Common Variable Immune Deficiency), I know how difficult it can be for patients to stay warm while hooked up to IV and PICC lines. Robes, sweaters and jackets don’t work with the lines. I came up with a solution when my son, Gavin was 6. I created fun fleece poncho capes for him to slip over his head. He was cozy in bed and no more cold walks down hospital corridors.
Our Mission
With the help of my business partner and friend Cindy, I hope to raise money to buy fleece fabric to personally sew and also have manufactured fleece ponchos for chronically ill children in hospitals across the country. For every adult or child cape we sell on our website, we provide an additional cape to a child in the hospital. For direct donations, every $10 provides a cape to a child. $100 donates 10 children’s capes. Our goal of $5,000 will provide 500 capes. I have personally sewn over 100 capes and invested in manufacturing 700 capes for donations to children and hope to be able to create many more!
On June 12, 2019 we delivered our first donation to Johns Hopkins Childrens Center. The Child Life Specials were thrilled to receive our unique capes that solve a commonly acknowledged problem. We have since donated over 300 ponchos to over 16 hospitals and Ronald McDonald Houses in MD, VA, DC, SC, GA and NC. We have another 300 to deliver this Oct. and Nov. because of your generous support!
