Our amazing, sweet, and beautiful daughter Hanna was diagnosed severely deaf at 3 years old. With hearing aids and support she has had an amazing 9 years. She is incredibly well-spoken, confident, and smart.
Over the last two years her hearing has dropped. She is now profoundly deaf, Although she is still succeeding (boy she is stubborn!) she is losing her touch with the hearing world and is struggling.
Hanna is now 12 and is profoundly deaf. We have the best, strongest hearing aids on the market and they are no longer able to help her. With them on, she can only hear 13 percent of speech. Her life is social, exciting, loud (she IS a middle-schooler after all). She is the silliest, most honest person you will meet;. She is sincere, beautiful, smart and amazing. She will tell you exactly what she is feeling and what she is going through. She is her BEST advocate.
Now, we, her parents, are advocating for her. She qualifies for a cochlear implant…that is a device that is surgically placed which allows her to receive electronic impulses directly to the auditory nerve. It holds extreme promise of hearing and all of Hanna’s hopes…Her world is NOT silent but is FULL of music, laughs, sighs, and so much more!
