Orphaned & Injured Wildlife In Need

Donation protected
I’m starting this campaign on behalf of my parents who live in remote western QLD Australia and are permitted native wildlife carers. This is a purely voluntary role with all ongoing costs coming from our family’s own pockets. However, they always try to do their best to rescue, rehabilitate & release any native animal in need.

As you can imagine costs can get quite extensive, especially when kangaroo joeys are in care. It has been their busiest year yet and they currently have 10 joeys ranging from 2kg through to 12kg in care.  Joeys require special milk formula which is roughly $25kg plus an excessive amount of other equipment, which has slowly taken over the house. There are pouches, assorted other linen, nutritional additives, medications, first aid equipment, bottles, teats, solid foods & the never-ending washing/cleaning/sterilising products. Living remote also means fuel can be a huge expense when rescuing animals, they have been known to travel 500km in less than 24hrs to rescue joeys.

Roos in western QLD cop a pretty bad rap but these sweet & affectionate babies are innocent & all deserve a second chance at life. Their survival rate in the wild is very poor to begin with. At the moment, western QLD is currently in a 6 year drought with roos dying in the thousands due to a lack of food & water and yet the government still hands out permits to cull or harvest. While there has been recent heavy rain it is yet to be seen if the drought is broken, follow up rain will be required. Also, the amount of road kill is horrendous as the kangaroos converge on the sides of the road for that little bit of green grass. Then there is the human element where people view them as a pest & purposely kill them in the most barbaric & cruel ways. They are also susceptible to so many illnesses that can kill them and at times, with very little time to treat. So, while they may not have many top predators, there are plenty of small microscopic organisms that we must be aware of.

Most of the joeys that come into care are from road accidents & if they are one of the lucky ones, someone stops to check the dead mothers pouch otherwise they are left to the elements which include predators, starving/dehydration and extreme weather.

I am hoping to raise enough money to lessen the financial burden over the next few months. No matter how small a contribution, it will all be put to good use in supporting our precious babies. Please share widely to reach as many people as possible.
