Brian and Viva's Burglary loss

Anybody that knows me knows that I rarely ask for help, I would say never but I currently am.  Last month our home was broken into and many things were stolen. All of our electronics,  cash, jewelry and even our some shoes and clothing.  This includes both my children's tablets and they even stole the money out of their piggy banks.  We were traumatized but thought to ourselves "Well at least we have renters insurance". So after dealing with all the details that follow a break in, police report and repairs, I decided to file my claim.  The initial process was quick and easy, the process afterwards not so much.
I was given very little information and every time I would call I would get no answer and no call back. They were treating us very unprofessional and seemed to be avoiding us. They asked us to give all the proof of purchase that we had and then we would go from there. We sent them everything we could dig up but honestly we didn't have much to give. Many of the items were 2 years or older and we couldn't get receipts for them.  I didn't think much of it because I'm sure this is a pretty common thing.  Well after a few weeks of us trying to contact them  with no luck I receive an email saying how the claim was processed.  We were receiving around 10% of what was taken.  NO COMMUNICATION and no where in the policy does it day a receipt is mandatory. My wife consulted with a lawyer and he said we definitely have a case but a lawyer would be too expensive.  That leaves us with very little options.
So with that being said I am just trying to get back on my feet and  give my family what they deserve.  The cash that was stolen was for bills and I'm not in the place where I have extra money to make up for it. So we are behind on pretty much every bill because there were certain items that I had to replace because of my kids.  I hate asking for help but I would appreciate anything youxcan give.  Thank you so much for listening to my story.
