My name is Aljemian Dyre, the second oldest brother of Christian Dyre. With a heavy heart, I share that my brother’s life was cut short while serving time in jail. Christian, like so many who grew up less fortunate, was caught up in a lifestyle shaped by our surroundings. In 2020, on July 31st, he was involved in a tragic incident that took the life of his friend. Since then, he had been incarcerated, awaiting trial, first at Raymond Detention Center and later transferred to Tallahassee County Jail. If he had made it to July of this year, it would have been five years behind bars without a conviction.
Through it all, Christian remained my brother—my family. He called me almost every day, no matter where I was, because I couldn’t call him. He checked on me, our family, and our friends. We talked about life, our future, our struggles, and sometimes we talked about nothing at all—just two brothers staying connected through a phone line. He was funny, full of life, and always found a way to make us laugh, even in the darkest moments. We grew up together, playing every sport we could, running the streets as kids, and dreaming of something bigger.
Now, my family is devastated by his passing. No one prepares for something like this, and as we grieve, we are also fighting to make sure Christian is laid to rest with dignity—not buried as state property. No one deserves that. I stand here today on my brother’s behalf, asking for the support of our community and anyone reading this: Love your siblings. No matter what they go through, no matter the mistakes they’ve made, cherish them while they are here. Because when they’re gone, you will feel the weight of their absence every single day.
Christian may not be here physically, but I know he’s guiding me through this storm. If you have a sibling in jail, you understand this pain. No one wants to visit their loved one in a state property graveyard on a schedule. Christian has served his time, and now, we just want to bring him home the right way.
I leave you with this quote:
“Not everything that is faced can be changed. But nothing can be changed until it is faced.” — James Baldwin
If you can donate, share, or simply keep our family in your thoughts, we would be forever grateful. Thank you for understanding that life is never promised—so cherish every moment you have with the ones you love.
Aljemian Dyre
