Whether she’s known you most of her life or for just five minutes, Kim has always been compassionate, generous, and loving to everyone she meets. There isn’t anything she wouldn’t do to help her family, a friend, or a complete stranger. Now, Kim needs our help.
In mid-September, Kim’s world went dark, forever. Specialists confirmed complete blindness in her right eye and only 2% vision remaining in her left eye which is dark and blurry, with no peripheral vision, and will continue to progressively worsen. Her vision was affected by a combination of kidney and thyroid disease as a result of Agent Orange exposure passed down by her late father, a Vietnam veteran.
In order for Kim to maintain as much independence as possible, and to provide a safe and functional environment, the Fitterer’s will require major home renovations including installation of smart technology, a new kitchen with easy accessibility & repair of a sloped floor, blind-friendly appliances, installation of a walk-in shower/tub with hand rails, installation of porch railings, etcetera.
Kim had to leave her 20 year career as a Respiratory Therapist when she was declared legally blind following multiple failed surgeries, including a craniotomy to remove her orbital bones. Kim and her beloved husband, Jesse, thought they would have more time to prepare for such expenses. Unfortunately, that time has now run out and the financial burden is upon them.
