Fisher Farms is a 5th generation local Black farm, located in Jonesville, Florida in operation since the turn of the century, by our grandmother, Georgia. With recent excessive turmoil and division, it’s hard to find the light. Regardless of the hardships, we always find a way to keep a smile on our faces and continue to look for the light at the end of the tunnel.
Today, we are smiling a little larger, because we have great news to share with the community!
Thanks to @AmericanFarmland and @Tillamook we have been awarded a $5,000 grant to help get some very badly needed fences built around our fields. With neighborhood developments encroaching all around us, wildlife in our area are being pushed out and finding less to eat. For seasons now, our farm has become an all-you-can-eat buffet for the creatures, especially the deer. And while we understand that the animals need to eat, we would rather be feeding you - our community!
Next up- as we anticipate more produce from the protected fields, we need to build a walk-in cooler. While we have been grateful to WorkingFood for donating fridge space, we really need one on the farm to save time, prevent waste, and preserve the high quality of our produce. Your donation will be matched by an angel investor to help with other critical infrastructure as well! So every dollar is DOUBLED!!
We have been humbled by the support our community continues to give us, and are proud to do the work we are doing. If you have the means, we ask that you share our story widely and consider helping us build our farm stronger for the future. Your contribution will enable us to continue the tradition of bringing quality, local produce to market- and keeping Black farmers in business, because Black Farmers Matter!
