First-Gen College Debt

Hello everyone! My name is Jala Bogard and I am a Senior attending Western Carolina University. I am currently obtaining a double Bachelor’s Degree in Molecular Biology and Forensic Biology as well as a minor in Chemistry. I chose my majors to assist me in pursuing a career in Forensic Pathology. My other extracurricular passions besides school include supporting minorities in the field of science, volunteering in my community, and developing my leadership skills. I am currently the president of Fem in STEM at my university, which encourages and supports women in their pursuit of a degree in science. The other extracurricular activities I am involved in include the National Society of Leadership and Success, Alpha Lambda Delta, biology club, and chemistry club.  As a first-generation college student, it is nearly impossible to keep up with my college expenses while maintaining my GPA due to the increasingly burdening student debt I am acquiring. I am currently working on campus as a course tutor and campus ambassador to attempt to stay afloat while paying for college, but it is becoming increasingly difficult. I implore you to support me in my educational journey, and I thank you for taking the time to get to know me.
