Bela's First Excavation

For those of you who don't know me, my name is Bela and I am a junior at the University of Texas at Austin studying for a B. A. in Anthropology and Classical Archaeology. My primary interest is in Ancient Egypt, but I am interested in all ancient cultures and history.
Participating in an archaeological field school is vital to beginning a career in archaeology as well as a requirement for completing my degree. Not to mention, the experience of studying abroad itself is invaluable. It is my dream to travel and learn all that I can about the history of humankind. I have been accepted into the UT Faculty-Led Portugal Field School excavating at a Late Bronze Age/Roman site. This Program is an amazing opportunity to participate in archaeological fieldwork.
It is a 6-week program and provides a great variety of experience in field archaeology. Here is the university's estimated breakdown of costs:
Application Fee: $50
Tuition: $2583
Program Fee: $3800
Airfare: $1500
Personal Items: $500
Medical Insurance: $114
Passport: $135*
Total: $ 8,682
*Note: I already have a passport.
I will be applying for financial aid as well as any scholarships I am eligible for and I will add those on here if and when received. However, it is not likely that these will cover all costs. This list also does not include buying work clothing or an archaeological toolset. So here I am, asking for the help of family and friends. Every little bit counts, and even if you are unable to donate please share this with your friends and family through your Facebook page. Additionally, I will continue to update this page all the way up until my departure. I appreciate you taking the time to read my story and I appreciate any help that you can give. I will also be offering incentives to donate (postcards, souvenirs, honorable mentions in future publications, etc.), although you can donate any amount you wish. Every little bit counts!
