Support First Nation Representation in Antarctica

Donation protected
My name is Danielle Kehler and I am a member of the Kawacatoose First Nations on Treaty 4 territory and I am also in my 3rd year of Business Management at the University of Saskatchewan.  I am the "first ever" First Nations Persons from North America to be selected by renowned polar explorer Robert Swan, O.B.E. as one of 100 participants to join the 2041 ClimateForce Antarctic Expedition “Leadership on the Edge Program”.

The 2041 ClimateForce Antarctic Expedition has the most comprehensive on-board programming schedule of any polar expedition.  Robert Swan’s renowned ‘Leadership-On-The-Edge’ (LOTE) program, which has been perfected over two decades, consists of a unique blend of interactive workshops, up-to-date climate science training, and sustainable development education to help participants on their climate leadership journeys. Featuring global experts in climate science, renewable energy, and sustainability, this unique and immersive journey trains participants on these subjects.  Most importantly, it equips participants with the tools to create meaningful change and seek out pragmatic solutions in their communities, institutions, companies, and governments in order to benefit Antarctica and the planet. This Expedition is an opportunity for participants to connect with and learn from the natural environments most affected by climate change, and to realize the urgent need for real-world solutions to address these issues.  https://2041foundation.org/about-us/

The Expedition has a fee that all participants must make in order to attend the 2041 ClimateForce Antarctic Expedition, which comes to a total of $17,000 USD.  I will also be responsible for all other expenses not included in the participation fee such as flights to and from Argentina, equipment needed for the trip, travel insurance, food and accommodations prior to the trip and after we return to Ushuaia, Argentina.  I am a Canadian citizen and all funds donated will have to be converted to USD.  The total amount needed, including the participation fee and incidentals, is equivalent to $26,000 Canadian Dollars

The Expedition is from November 3-14 2021, I will need all associated fees by September 2021 to be able to attend the 2041 ClimateForce Antarctic Expedition.

I am passionate about climate justice and have always been actively fighting for Indigenous rights to help with breaking down barriers that we as Indigenous people face on a daily basis.  I do all this work so we can have a better representation in the climate conversation as Indigenous people have traditional ecological knowledge that offer many solutions to climate change.  I have initiated and participated in many climate action initiatives, especially within the Indigenous communities.  Indigenous Peoples across the world have been under-represented in all forms of the Energy Industry and I believe that by attending this climate action initiative, it will help open doors of opportunity for more Indigenous representation across many sectors of the Industry and contribute to climate action conversations across the globe.  I would be honored to represent treaty 4 territory, my homeland of Kawacatoose First Nations and First Nations People across Turtle Island in this global endeavor in our fight against climate change.

I know that the global fight against anthropogenic climate change is something everyone should be serious about, and so I was hoping you would be able to support my journey (and in doing so become part of the mission as well!), or let others know about my participation in the Expedition.  As Robert Swan says, “The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it.” I can’t wait to tell you more about this unique journey soon!
