Firefighter Joel Moore Needs a Transplant

Donation protected
We're reaching out to you, our family, friends and community for help.

Local Plainfield Firefighter/Paramedic, Joel Moore (40), loving husband and father of two sons is battling end stage liver failure and is in need of a transplant.

Back in October, what we thought were COVID symptoms turned out to be 3 life threatening infections causing Joel to become septic, which was soon diagnosed as end stage liver failure.  We'll never forget that day when the doctors delivered the news and informed us that if the medications failed to cure the infections, that he wouldn't survive.

After several months of Joel fighting for his life, in and out of hospitals and ERs, getting gallons of fluid drained from his abdomen, we were relieved to hear his surgical team was ready to begin pre-testing and consideration for a liver transplant.  The doctors are hopeful that he will soon make the transplant list however there are many factors involved to ensure he's healthy enough to withstand the surgery and make a full recovery.

During his pre-testing for transplant, Joel asked the doctors if he would ever be able to return to the fire house and finish his career as a firefighter/paramedic and they said no, which has left him broken and unable to comprehend how he went from the one providing care to others for so many years to now becoming reliant on others to care for him.

Joel never knew that his shift on October 11th, 2021 would be the last time he heard the tones, the last time he worked with his crew, the last time riding on the truck, engine and ambulance, the last time he reported for duty and the last time he would put on his gear and represent the Plainfield Fire Department as Firefighter/Paramedic Joel Moore, badge number 204.

Joel is a stubborn bull and continues to fight each day to regain a new chance at life.  We were blessed to witness our oldest son, Gavin, graduate High School and get accepted into the Milwaukee School of Engineering where he will be attending this fall.  Our youngest son, Tyler, 15, will begin his sophomore year of high school this fall.  He dreamed about joining the fire department one day and riding alongside his Dad as a firefighter/paramedic.

Joel has dedicated his life to saving the lives of your family members within this community for nearly 20 years and now I'm humbly requesting that you save ours.  It is with a heavy heart that we ask for your support.  In addition to the emotional and mental devastation we're both experiencing, we are also having to battle extreme financial hardship.

Between the effects of COVID and becoming Joel's fulltime caregiver, it has been challenging to rebuild my coaching business especially after being diagnosed with breast cancer in December.

These unfortunate and unplanned events has been devastating.  Joel took his oath as a Firefighter/Paramedic when Plainfield was a volunteer department, now after dedicating nearly 20 years on the department, he is only eligible to receive half his pension since he is unable to work full term.  All benefits will be lost mid-July including health and life insurance.  I have already turned in our vehicle as we're unable to make the payments, our mortgage is currently in forbearance and my biggest fear is losing everything we've worked so hard for and not having our home to return to for his recovery.  The financial impact has been life-shattering, and our family’s financial future remains unknown at this point.

As you can imagine, this has been a very difficult road for us and our family and it's not close to being over.  It's still hard to believe that this our reality, there have been many ups and downs. We would be grateful to receive your generous gift no matter the denomination.
