Fire Peter Bowen

The City of New Orleans has launched a crowdfunding campaign to help those who have been evicted by a massive uptick in evictions. “Your neighbors are facing homelessness,” their crowdfunding campaign says... and they’re right. Half of the city is reportedly at risk of an eviction as of today.

The City, however, could end this nightmare immediately. Close housing court, as they did during the first weeks of the pandemic, and tell landlords: “This isn’t a fiefdom. Get a job.”

Instead, the Mayor has hiredPeter Bowen , previously a short-term rental exec whose plan for the city is for everyone to be homeless and that all rental properties become Airbnb’s for tourists.

As the Lens notes: “A report from March 2018 by Jane Place Neighborhood Sustainability Initiative, an affordable housing group that opposed the expansion of the legal short-term rental market in the city, found that Sonder had more listings on Airbnb than any other short-term rental operator in the city with 124.“

This is the wrong direction for our city and its crowdfunding campaign is laughable. The City could end the eviction crisis in one fell swoop — by shutting down eviction proceedings until at least 2021. Help us raise money to encourage the city to eliminate Bowen’s position and close the court.
