Fionn's Parade of Lights

Donation protected
On Sunday the 29th of December 2019 “Fionn’s Parade of Lights” will be held in North County Dublin in memory of Fionn who was taken from his family and friends far too soon last January.
“Fionn’s Parade of Lights” will support three local charities which looked after Fionn during his time of illness including Aoife’s Clown Doctors, Blood Bikes Dublin and Laura Lynn.

Note from Fionn’s Parents:
Our long awaited Fionn arrived on the 23rd of April 2013. He was always lovely, gentle and a mischievous little boy with a great sense of fun!
At age 3 and 8 months Fionn developed recurring temperatures and was tragically diagnosed with neuroblastoma. He had almost 2 years of horrific treatment which required him to be an inpatient in the hospital throughout the treatment.
Despite this horrific treatment, Fionn never once complained. He was always a beautiful and kind little boy who had an understanding of humanity and the world way beyond his tender years.
Fionn had so many loves in life – farm machinery, the outdoors, sharks, oceans, planes, trains, cycling, painting, baking, music, chatting (always after anything and about anything!) and his best friend, his beautiful big sister Freya who misses him so so much.
Fionn knew the world from looking at his map and wanted to travel everywhere from Dubai to New York.
Throughout our journey with Fionn we met so many amazing people.
Fionn always spoke of “a doo” and it was only last Christmas that he told us that “a doo is a person who makes other people lovely”. We got to tell him before he died that he was the “ultimate doo”.
Fionn died in our arms on the 9th of January 2019. We are heartbroken and miss him so much.
Fionn touched the hearts of all who met him. ‘Farmer Michael’ (Michael Hoey – Country Crest) was so dear to him and he spoke about ‘Farmer Michael’ and the combine harvesters right up to the end.
Farmer Michael and a group of fantastic people have organised an event “Fionn’s Parade of Lights” to remember Fionn. Fionn loved Christmas Lights and Machinery, as such a great way to remember him is to combine both!
The journey throughout childhood cancer is cruel and tragic but we have been helped by so many people and charities. We are focusing on 3 this time.

Aoife’s Clown Doctors was set up by Aoife’s parents, Aine and Adrian in honour of their lovely little girl who, like Fionn, died at age 5 in 2012. The “Clown Doctors” entertain children and with their wacky, hilarious, musical sense of humor which they can adapt to any situation. In short, they provided us with so much joy in a time of great sadness.

Lauralynn is an amazing charity set up by Jane and Brendan McKenna in honour of their daughters Laura and Lynn. They have established the only children hospice in Ireland. The staff came to the house to make memories with Fionn before he died and continue to support us and other families in similar positions throughout their bereavement work. It is a remarkable service.

Blood Bikes Dublin are another amazing service who really helped us when we wanted to keep Fionn at home. A lot of time whilst were at home was spent bringing Fionn’s blood samples to and from hospital. The kind volunteers of Blood Bikes made sure that we were able to spend valuable time at home with Fionn while they brought the samples to Crumlin Hospital. It is a fantastic service.
