Hi everyone,
As our friends, family and many in our local community would be aware, my handsome but cheeky 5 Year old nephew, Finn O’Donovan was recently diagnosed with (DMD) Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
DMD is a degenerative, fatal disease that affects young boys. 1 in 3500 boys are born with DMD. This disease is so very cruel as the muscles in the body slowly breakdown with most boys becoming wheelchair bound by their late primary school years to early teens. This is often followed by cardiovascular and respiratory difficulties. The life expectancy is in the mid-twenties.
As you can imagine, this has completely shaken the entire family as well as our friends and Finn’s diagnosis has broken his parents hearts. Ross and Rebecca although devastated, have shown nothing but pure strength for their little superhero. I watch them every day in admiration as their positivity is nothing short of inspirational. They immediately got the ball rolling to give Finn the best years possible before he is severely affected by DMD. They have not asked anyone for help, it's only through the continual concern of all those around us, that we thought it time we try to raise funds for our Finny. Finny is the younger brother of two sisters, Ella 9 and Nia 7, who will also be faced with this tragedy as Finn’s condition worsens.
Finn will need a lot of medical attention in the years to come and he will eventually need full time care. However, our focus at the moment is to provide him with fun filled adventures and life experiences that he’ll never forget. We want him to enjoy life to its fullest while he still can.
Since the devastating news broke, so many of our friends have been asking us how they can help and now we are asking for that help! Ross and Rebecca have begun the process of getting an in-ground pool in their backyard. Swimming is one of the key therapies for DMD sufferers.
We are hoping that everyone can dig a little, small or big it doesn't matter. Every cent will go towards ensuring Finn can have fun filled summers in his new pool swimming right at his backdoor and enjoy the health benefits it will provide for him. Our aim is $50,000 which we hope will cover most of the costs associated with the construction of the pool.
