Finn’s Top Surgery

Hey everyone, my name is Finn and i’m a 24 year old trans man living in London. I started testosterone at the end of May this year and it has changed my life unimaginably! Since starting T I’ve moved to London and begun studying at university, something I never thought was possible before my medical transition began.


While opening up an entire new world of opportunity for me, testosterone has also thrown at me a huge increase in chest dysphoria. This is something I have struggled with every day of my life since puberty as a child and something that feels to be worsening every day as my body experiences a second puberty. Due to this, like many other folk that experience chest dysphoria, I am forced to bind every day and often in unsafe ways. This has lead to issues with my ribs and back which only get worse with every day that I continue to bind. Recently I have started to experience forms of sensory processing issues, something I had not experienced before starting T, making the daily task of wearing a binder even more unbearable and often very distressing.


I have researched top surgery over and over and contacted many surgeons over the years, unable to further the process as the procedure can cost £7000+ in the UK, a figure impossible for me to save as a low income student. As i’ve recently started to reach a tipping point in my ability to live this way for however much longer, I have been researching surgeons outside of the UK that will offer me this life saving surgery for a much lower price. For the surgery, flights + accommodation and other relevant fees I am looking at approximately £3-4000 which is far more achievable for a person in my position. Fortunately, by taking this route I will not have to endure the huge waiting lists there are for UK surgeons both private and through the NHS.


While I am saving as much as I can, paying for rent and the challenges of Covid-19 are making this increasing difficult and so I would be eternally grateful to all who are able to support me in any way possible. I am hoping to have my surgery as soon as possible so with a mix of saving, fund raising and hopefully some more bright ideas along the way, I will reach my target and begin the process by summertime next year.
