Finley's Dental Surgery

Donation protected
Hello Friends,

This is not something I would normally do, but given the circumstances I felt like reaching out to let everyone know what Finley is currently going through.

A few weeks ago, Finley had a vet wellness appointment and it was revealed that she had a severely cracked tooth (molar) and needed to get it extracted.  It was most likely from a bone that she has been chewing on, so for any dog owners, be careful with giving your dog hard toys.  Given her underlying (Protein Losing Enteropathy) disease, I wanted her to see a veterinary dental specialist since she would be under a lengthy anesthesia.  We went with a great veterinarian in the Charlotte area and she had her surgery on Tuesday 6/23.  Once sedated, x-rays showed that she had another crack in a second tooth on the other side of her mouth, and that needed to come out too.  It was a two- and half-hour procedure but we were told that things went well.  They had to perform a bone graft in both cases, and each tooth hole was filled with shaved bone from her upper jaw.  She is back at home and recovering, but definitely in discomfort.  Her face is swollen around the eyes but we’ve been told she should be feeling better over the next couple of days.

With the veterinarian being a dental surgery specialist, I knew that the cost would be high.  The overall surgery was $4,200, and with the pre surgery consultation and postsurgery follow up & medication, it will end up costing around $5,000.  After the consultation we were expecting to pay around $3,000, but the cost increased after the second tooth was extracted.

I have set up a GoFundMe to help cover a little more than 50% of the bill, and any extra that is received will be donated to The Richardson Rescue, which is where I adopted Finley.  I will update everyone if the donation amount is exceeded and will share a photo of our donation to the rescue.  The rescue has done a great job with helping families adopt pets, but several years ago they suffered a significant fire and 16 dogs were killed.  - Richardson Rescue Fire article.

While I’m sure they have almost fully recovered, given that the fire was 5 years ago, please know that any extra money that is donated to them will be put to good use and will help other dogs find forever homes.

I know this is a tough time for everyone, not only financially but emotionally as well.  I have loved being able to share Finley with everyone, and if you have enjoyed the videos that we have made on Instagram and would like to donate to help cover part of her bill, we would greatly appreciate it.  If not, it’s totally understandable and I hope to continue sharing videos in the future after she has healed.

Hope everyone is staying safe and healthy,

Greg and Finley
