Finish the Build: A Home for Ness & Miko

Hi everyone,

My name is Ness, and I'm building a small, mobile home in the bed of my truck. This camper isn't just a passion project; it's my path forward, ensuring I have a stable place to live while I pursue my dream of becoming a carpenter.

I'm a 33-year-old in St. George's, NL, and I'm fully committed to my education. I'm currently completing my Adult Basic Education (ABE) to get the credits I need for the Carpentry program at the College of the North Atlantic. Outside of school, I dedicate my time to our community as a volunteer Firefighter and an Archery Coach Developer.

Recently, my housing situation took an unexpected and difficult turn, resulting in me having to leave my home. This has made finishing my truck camper an immediate and urgent necessity. It will provide a safe, secure home for me and my wonderful 7-month-old dog, Miko, allowing me to focus on my studies without the constant stress of housing instability.

The great news is that I am incredibly close to finishing! I've poured all my time and resources into this 2009 Chevy Silverado, and the hardest parts are done:

Mechanical Work: The engine, transmission, and all major mechanicals are complete.
Waterproofing: A durable ARE truck cap is installed and fully waterproofed.
Power: A 12V and 120V electrical system is set up for my laptop and other essentials.
Foundation: The truck bed has been treated for rust and sprayed with a protective liner.
Heat: A wood stove is installed for warmth during the colder months.

I've hit the final hurdle and just need a little help to get the essential finishing touches that will make the space truly livable. Your support will go directly to purchasing the last few materials I need:

Insulation: 10 sheets of 1-inch R5 rigid foam board
Interior Walls: 8-10 sheets of 1/4" or 1/2" plywood
Heat Shield: Aluminum sheeting to safely finish the wood stove area
Hardware: Self-tapping screws and other fasteners / odds and ends

Any funds raised beyond these material costs will go toward paying off my truck loan, further securing my future.

I know that not everyone is in a position to contribute financially, and I completely understand. Simply sharing this campaign with others would be an incredible help. If you are local and have any of these building materials you'd be willing to donate, that would also mean the world to me.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story. Your support, in any form, will make a direct and massive impact on my life, helping me build a home and a future.

With gratitude,
Ness (& Miko)
