Hello! My name is Karla Sanford and I am currently a high school junior from Atlanta, Georgia. I am pleased to announce that I have been accepted into the New York University 2018 Tisch Summer High School Filmmakers Workshop. NYU's Kanbar Institute of Film & Television located within the prestigious Tisch School of the Arts is currently the number one film school in the country. The opportunity to hone my craft at such an esteemed institution would be life changing, not only because of the exposure to state of the art equipment and renowned professors, but also because of my interactions with my peers who will hail from all around the globe.
I have been passionate about film making since the sixth grade. When my earth science class was tasked with creating a video presentation on climate change, I immediately took over writing and directing the project. I had always loved good storylines, but now I had the opportunity to watch my dialogue transform into a living piece of art. I appreciated the visual approach that screenwriting and directing convey ideas with rather than being limited to strictly the imagination like with a traditional novel. This summer I have the opportunity to present my ideas at the most advanced level and with your help my dreams of being a filmmaker can begin to be realized.
The cost of the Tisch Workshop is $11,929. This balance includes tuition, housing, and a meal plan, with additional service fees. To confirm my spot, I have made an initial down payment of $2,000. My goal is to collect the remaining balance by Tuesday May 15th, and I am asking for your help in fundraising $4,000. Although the time frame is short, I am very hopeful that with your support, the goal can be met. I will be grateful for any contribution, big or small.
At the completion of the program, I will walk away with a completely new skill set. I hope to use my new skills in high school, incorporating what I learn into the film club, which I run, at my school. I also plan to take what I learn with me to college where I plan to pursue a film major. Thank you so much for helping to make my dream a reality. I cannot wait to share the short films I will create!
