Fill Jenny Preston's Little Library

When my best friend Jenny Preston died in March 2015 at age 36, I didn’t immediately know how best to honor her memory. It didn’t hit me until more than a year later, when I went to a fundraiser for the Detroit Little Libraries project that my friend Kim Kozlowski is championing. I saw the Little Libraries all dressed up and felt this would be a great tribute to Jenny and a way for her joy of reading and books to continue to benefit children.
Jenny was an avid reader and teen librarian at Novi Public Library. She loved ordering new books for the library's collection. She led a full life and really was the best kind of friend. She listened. She emailed. She called and texted. And a lot more than most of us did with her. She truly touched so many people in so many special ways.
Children’s Hospital of Michigan in Detroit seemed like the perfect place for Jenny's Little Library since she had a life-saving surgery there as a baby. After much planning, including beautiful artwork from Eno Laget, the Little Library was dedicated at the hospital in February 2017. It has been in use in the hospital's new emergency department since the end of June. And patients, children and staff love it, as it keeps children and often times siblings busy. And the kids get to take a book home with them!
The hospital is going through a few hundred books a day. The Children’s Hospital of Michigan emergency department is one of the busiest in the country, annually treating about 90,000 patients.
I don’t want to see this library empty. I’m hoping you’ll join me in helping to keep Jenny's Little Library stocked. Money raised will go to the Children’s Hospital of Michigan Foundation and specifically to the Child Life Fund- Little Library. The hospital will be able to tap funds to buy books as needed.

I’m also collecting gently used and new children's books (baby to teenager). I've already donated 400 to the hospital thanks to friends and community members who have already donated to the cause. Send me an email or message if you want to participate that way.
