Fund BEC medal ceremony for Filipino WWII Veterans

As some of you may know, 2019 marks both my tenth year of involvement in the Filipino American community and my 30th birthday! For this milestone, I want to give back; one of the first issues of social justice that I learned about was the Filipino WWII Veterans' struggle for recognition. With this fundraiser, I am reaching out to ask for donations in support of the upcoming Filipino WWII Veterans Congressional Gold Medal Ceremony, which will take place at the end of October 2019.

The Bayanihan Equity Center (BEC), formerly known as the Veterans Equity Center, has been a leading force in advocacy for Filipino WWII Veterans since 1999, and are still working to ensure that all Filipino WWII Veterans, whether alive or deceased, are recognized for their services to the United States.

Donations will help cover costs of the awarding ceremony, which include:
- bronze medal replicas ($52 EACH)
- shipment of the medals ($$$)
- rental and labor costs of the venue ($$$$).

Overall, the event will cost over $12,000. BEC will be inviting at least 100 veterans and their next of kin to attend this October ceremony.  As a non-profit organization, any contributions, great or small, would be highly appreciated.

*** Please note that this is not a public event, and is INVITATION ONLY ***

About the Filipino WWII Veterans:
On July 26, 1941, President Franklin D. Roosevelt issued an Executive Order calling over 260,000 soldiers from the Philippine Commonwealth Army into service under the United States Army Forces of the Far East (USAFFE). Today, as we commemorate the 76th anniversary of the military order we take the opportunity to express our gratitude to the thousands of men and women who valiantly served during World War II.

On December 14, 2016, President Barack Obama signed into law the Filipino Veterans of World War II Congressional Gold Medal Act of 2015. The United States Congress bestowed the highest civilian award to the Filipino World War II Veterans; the United States Mint will be producing a single Congressional Gold Medal to collectively recognize the contribution of the Filipino Veterans. Eligible Filipino Veterans or a surviving family member will be awarded a bronze replica.
