Fighting Teenage Cancer

Donation protected
Jamie is 17, a young man with an unbelievable future ahead of him. A* in all 11 GCSE’s taken and predicted all A’s at A level. He had secured offers to study medicine at every university he interviewed with and had chosen to start his studies in Glasgow in September 2017.

Until, in the middle of his A level exams, he was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia. This was sudden and without warning, a head ache and feeling tired had been put down to exam stress until the morning of Sunday 25th June when a simple trip to Primary Care turned into their worst nightmare. His mum thought he looked pale and assumed anaemia, but it was clear after the initial blood tests that this was not the case.

Further blood tests at Chorley hospital showed the probability of Leukaemia and that evening Jamie was rushed to the Christie hospital in Manchester for an emergency blood transfusion and to have their worst fears confirmed.

This news caused the family’s world as they knew it to fall apart, with 3 siblings at home, Helen with Jamie in Manchester, there was no option but for Phil to take time away from work. Helen also had a job to start, which has been put on hold for the time being.

As most of us know bringing up one child is an expensive business, never mind 4 and added to this the expense of numerous trips to the Christie and loss of earnings, they are experiencing the added financial stresses of keeping the home running under very difficult circumstances.

This page has been set up to offer options to the family. Being fiercely independent and proud, it was something we thought long and hard about doing, we just couldn’t watch our friends struggle financially when they should be putting all their strength and time into fighting this horrible disease.

That is where you come in, please donate to our go fund me page so that Phil and Helen can support Jamie through his treatment without having the added stress of the financial burden. I know Helen and Phil will take as little as possible from this fund and we have committed to donating the leftover funds to The Christie Hospital. Their support to the family is unmeasurable, hopefully what we raise will go some way to helping the fight against cancer.
