Fighting For Bethany

Bethany has been admitted to VRC Malvern for lifesaving intensive treatment. Bethany stopped eating on her own several weeks ago, which has resulted in syringe feeding A/D. She has become increasingly less energetic and this week has become lethargic. Her condition has rapidly declined and she is currently fighting for life. Bethany was rescued in late July as a 7 week old kitten with a fractured pelvis and severely emaciated. After several weeks of physical and laser therapy, Bethany regained function in her hind legs and appeared to make a full recovery. She spent several months symptom free until this past month, Bethany has begun to show troubling signs. She developed a persistent fever, anorexia, unknown origin of pain, and began to use her injured leg less and less. Her blood work was done earlier this month, showing nothing significantly wrong. She began a course of antibiotics to try to get the fever under control. This was unsuccessful, which resulted in another course of antibiotics, with the same result. Radiographs were taken last week, which did not indicate a bone infection. Another course of antibiotic was started and broke the fever. The veterinarian that she saw hoped that once her fever broke that her appetite would return, but it did not. This morning Bethany broke with another fever and is in critical condition. She began urinating on herself and is unable to move. She is showing symptoms of encephalopathy, which is likely the cause of a severe infection. We do not know what the future will hold at this time, but we are fighting for Bethany’s life. We are desperately in need of help to raise the funds to cover Bethany’s veterinary bills.
