Hi everyone,

My name is Ting. I just celebrated my 30thth birthday and have been working as a mental health nurse for the last few years.

Last year I had an experience that changed my life forever.

I was at work one day and began to notice changes in my vision and concentration. I didn’t think much of it at first and put it down to tiredness from shift work and picking up to much overtime. It wasn’t until weeks later that I started getting intense headaches and my vision was becoming increasingly blurry. I spoke with a doctor one afternoon after work and he recommended I have an MRI.

The results showed a large lesion the size of a golf ball on my brain that had been developing slowly over time. I was sent for brain surgery to have this removed and tested for cancer. The one week it took for the biopsy to come back was the longest week of my life. I was filled with constant anxiety and fear of what the results would show.

The biopsy showed stage four brain cancer. The most aggressive form of cancer.

This was the point where my life totally changed. I was truly gutted. I lived life feeling a constant and tremendous amount of sadness and devastation.

All I could think was “why me?” but I told myself that nobody deserves to have this terrible disease.
And so began the endless series of chemo and radiotherapy, which needless to say, made me feel absolutely awful day in and day out.

For the last couple of months I’ve tried my best to live a healthy and normal life.

Ive gotten back into running and recently did the Blackmores half marathon which was an awesome experience.  One of my greatest strengths is staying optimistic and jolly in the face of adversity. I always put my best smile on and just go on with my daily routine at home and work.
Of course doing this would be impossible without the support of my peers, friends and loved ones. These people encourage me to keep pushing through life full of resilience and hope.

Although the world of cancer is extremely scary and daunting I continue to live a happy and content life. I don't regret anything because I know I can still live the best version of my life. I have a loving partner and awesome bunch of friends. I firmly believe that there is life after cancer, so until then, I will not give up fighting and I will never stop enjoying the beautiful world we live in.
