Fighting for rights of transgender child

Don protégé
Taylor* made it clear from a young age that they were not a typical boy. At age 4, they started asking to wear princess dresses and tutus. At age 5, they started saying that they did not want “that bump men get on their necks” and other male secondary sex characteristics. And since age 6, they have identified as a girl with peers and have requested their parents to use she/her/girl. Multiple therapists have diagnosed Taylor with gender dysphoria and have recommended to use she/her/girl for them.

Taylor, now age 9, is being raised mainly by a single Mom who is supportive of Taylor’s female gender identity expression. Taylor’s father, however, is  not supportive.  He will not use “she” and limits stereotypical female clothing, hair styles, and activities. Because of the current custody arrangement with shared decision-making, Taylor’s mom cannot use “she” or register Taylor as female for activities that are for girls, nor can she enforce therapist recommendations to allow female clothing, hairstyles, etc. and use "she" when Taylor is with their father.

Taylor’s mother has been fighting for Taylor’s rights in family court by trying to work towards gaining a custody arrangement that would allow Taylor to express their gender identity as they choose and to enforce therapeutic recommendations at their father’s house. This has been and could continue to be an ongoing process for Taylor’s mother.

Taylor's mom never expected to be in a position of raising her child and fighting for custody all because they are transgender. Taylor has been getting increasingly stressed about not having full support. There is a much higher risk of suicide for transgender youth, compared to youth who identify with their birth sex; and about 30% of transgender females report attempting suicide**.  Those numbers decrease substantially when transgender children have parental support. Taylor and their mom need your help so that Taylor can get the support they need.

Taylor’s mom has already spent over $60,000 for fees from attorneys and other litigation costs and cannot absorb any more debt. She needs our help to cover expenses incurred to fight on Taylor’s behalf.

Every amount helps. If you cannot give any, please spread the word in supportive circles.
