<div>Na een bijzonder moeizaam en lang traject lijken onze gebeden verhoord en hebben we eindelijk antwoorden op de vragen waar we al zo lang mee lopen.

<div>Ik heb met spoed <strong>levensreddende operaties</strong> nodig voor mijn instabiele halswervelkolom.

<div>Zonder operatie sterf ik, en op heel korte termijn.

<div>Helaas lopen de kosten hoog op en door de zeldzaamheid van de aandoening (CCI/AAI) wordt het niet vergoed.

<div>Het zijn uitgebreide operaties, vooral de fusie, met een lang verblijf in Barcelona. De operaties, meerdere dagen verblijf op de intensive care unit, ziekenhuiskosten, het verblijf in het zorghotel, de onderzoeken, de reis, alles telt enorm bij elkaar op. En dit is uiteindelijk slechts het begin van een lang traject.

<div>Daarom vragen wij jullie om hulp. We vinden het heel lastig om dat te moeten doen maar het is zo hard nodig om in leven te blijven. Alle kleine beetjes helpen.

<div><strong>Mijn diagnoses en uitleg:</strong>
</div>
<div>Ik heb een aangeboren afwijking ter hoogte van de 2e nekwervel (C2) die al vanaf mijn geboorte voor instabiliteit zorgt. Daarnaast heb ik een botbreuk gehad in C2 die nooit gediagnostiseerd en daardoor ook niet behandeld is, dit zorgt eveneens voor instabiliteit. Ik heb ook Ehlers Danlos Syndroom (EDS), dit is een genetische bindweefselaandoening wat onder andere instabiliteit en hypermobiliteit in het gehele lichaam veroorzaakt.

<div>In plaats van alleen mijn bovenste nekwervels is mijn hele nek instabiel. Dusdanig instabiel dat ik momenteel zonder de juiste tractie en stabiliteit direct mijn bewustzijn verlies. De ernst van de instabiliteit heeft het hele traject enorm lastig gemaakt, hierdoor konden alle standaard onderzoeken niet uitgevoerd worden en wilde tot nu toe geen enkele arts verantwoordelijkheid voor mijn casus nemen.

<div>De fusie met tractie kan naast het feit dat het levensreddend is, ervoor zorgen dat ik weer normaal kan slikken, praten, zien, ademen, bij bewustzijn kan blijven, kan zitten, lopen en minder pijn zal hebben. Dingen die ik al meer dan een half jaar niet meer zonder stabilisatie kan.

<div>Ik heb ook een tethered cord, dat is een aangeboren afwijking in de lumbale wervelkolom waarbij het ruggenmerg abnormaal vastzit aan structuren binnen de wervelkolom. Dit betekent dat het ruggenmerg niet vrij kan bewegen binnen het wervelkanaal, zoals het normaal zou moeten. Hier moet een tethered cord release surgery voor plaatsvinden.

<div>Er is gebleken dat mijn gehele wervelkolom instabiel is en deze moet dan ook tot en met mijn bekken met tractie gefuseerd worden. Hiervoor zijn meerdere operaties nodig.

<div><strong>Waarom Barcelona?</strong>
</div>
<div>Deskundigen op het gebied van CCI/AAI als gevolg van EDS zijn er niet veel, in Europa enkel in Barcelona. Na een extreem moeizaam traject met vele artsen in Nederland en Duitsland waarbij Joany telkens van het kastje naar de muur werd gestuurd, steeds zieker werd en gewoon niet geholpen, zijn we terecht gekomen bij het <a href="https://international.quironsalud.com/en/hospitals/reference-hospitals/centro-medico-teknon" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Teknon ziekenhuis</a> in Barcelona. Mensen met de diagnose van Joany zoeken hun toevlucht bij <a href="https://drgilete.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Dr Gilete</a> in Barcelona, een specialist op dit gebied. Zijn team begrijpt precies wat er speelt bij Joany en na al die jaren werd ze eindelijk serieus genomen. Oorspronkelijk zouden we naar Barcelona reizen (een behoorlijke opgave voor Joany in haar conditie) voor consult en het vaststellen van een behandelplan, maar de situatie bleek nog ernstiger dan gedacht en de gezondheid van Joany ging steeds sneller achteruit waardoor alles in een wervelwind terecht is gekomen.

<div><strong>My diagnoses and explanation:</strong>
</div>
<div>I have a congenital deficit at the height of my second cervical vertebrae (C2) which has been causing instability since my birth. I also have an undiagnosed and thus untreated fracture of C2 which causes instability. Besides that I have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome. That’s a genetic connective tissue disorder which leads (amongst other things) to instability and hyper-mobility throughout the entire body.

<div>In stead of only my upper cervical vertebraes, my entire cervical spine is unstable. So severely that I immediately loose consciousness without the right amount of traction and stabilisation. The severity of the instability has made the road incredibly difficult because all standard diagnostic tests were too dangerous to be performed on me and no doctor wanted to take responsibility over my case.

<div>The fusion together with the traction, will, besides saving my life, improve my ability to swallow, speak, see, breathe, stay conscious, sit, walk, take care of myself and be in less pain. Things that I have not been able to do without stabilisation for the past 8 months.
</div>

<div>I also have a tethered spinal cord, this is a congenital deficit in the lumbar spine. It limits the movement of the spinal cord within the spinal column and requires a tethered cord release surgery.
</div>

<div>It turned out that my entire spine is instable and will need to be fused with traction until my pelvis. This requires several surgeries.
